O.C.A. 2010 Conference - A Huge Success!!!!

Thanks to a well organized and informative Ontario Camping Association conference this past weekend, Carrie and I were fortunate to network and learn from fellow camping professionals about current issues present in camping today. Sessions on bullying, low-ropes and instructor judgment training were just a few seminars in which we participated.

Keynote speaker Lynn Glazier spoke about some challenges our teens face in today's society and provided portions of her documentary film "It's a Teen's World: wired for sex, lies and power trips" to bring awareness to the current trends our teenagers are facing on a day-to-day basis.

The weekend concluded beautifully with Keynote speaker Dr. Wendy Mogel, Clinical Psychologist, author, speaker and parent of two. She eloquently discussed such issues as keeping expectations in line with a child's temperament, coping with frustration, avoiding over-scheduling and overindulgence, and helping children develop independence and self-control.

Well intended parents tend to shield their children from heartache, sadness and disappointment where in fact, children should be allowed to feel all of those emotions and learn coping skills necessary to prepare them for all situations life can and will throw at them.

Madawaska Camps is committed to providing a safe environment for children and teens to develop social skills, confidence and self-esteem. We continue to educate ourselves and our staff about the importance of modeling positive behavior and contributing to an optimistic future.

Yours in Camping,

Ian Eibbitt

Director
